Definition
Adverbial clauses of contrast (Adverbialsätze des Gegensatzes / der Einräumung) sind eine Form von Nebensätzen, die eine gegensätzliche Aussage zum Hauptsatz zum Ausdruck bringen. Eingeleitet werden diese Sätze durch die Konjunktionen while, even if / though, although, despite / in spite of und whereas.

- Despite the poor weather conditions, we still enjoyed our stay in Iceland.
- Although he earns a lot of money, he does not like to spend it.
- Oscar loved his brother in spite of the fact that he annoyed him occasionally.
