Ist das Relativpronomen das Objekt (nicht das Subjekt) eines bestimmenden Relativsatzes, wird es besonders in der Umgangssprache häufig weggelassen. Diese Form des Relativsatzes nennen wir contact clause.

Beispiele

  • The girl (who) Peter saw at the station was very pretty.
  • Is there anything (that) I can do?
  • You could get out the plates and glasses we’ll need.
  • The house we bought is 350 years old.

Ist das Subjekt im Hauptsatz und im Relativsatz jedoch dasselbe, benötigen wir ein Relativpronomen (relative pronoun): The car which / that caused the accident is brand new.
