to work in construction / to become a doctor / to work in customer service / to study in England / to do a lot of fitness

Lösung

Hint: Either the conditional clause (if-clause) or the result clause (will/won’t + verb) can appear first in the sentence. If the if-clause is the first part of the sentence, use a comma.

For type I if-clauses, always use the present simple form of the verb in the if-clause. In this case you’re writing about a woman, so remember that “s muss mit”.
It is possible that you have different answers, but that is okay.

  1. The woman won’t spend much time in an office if she works in construction.
  2. If she becomes a doctor, she will help many people.
  3. She’ll spend a lot of time on the phone if she works in customer service.
  4. If she doesn’t study in England, her English won’t improve.
  5. She will be very fit if she does a lot of fitness.

Lösung

Hint:  Luckily, you do have a smart phone and access to the Internet. The questions are hypothetical and are about an unrealistic situation, so you need to answer with type II if-clauses. Check your answers to make sure they use the simple past verb form in the condition clause (if-clause), and would/wouldn’t plus an infinitive verb in the result clause.

If I didn’t have my smartphone or the Internet, I would feel bored. I wouldn’t be able to go online, so I would watch television more often. If I couldn’t communicate with my friends online or with my phone, I would meet with them more often. Maybe we would play football together or meet at a café. If I didn’t have access to the Internet, I wouldn’t be able to do any research online for school. Instead, I would go to the library and find the information I needed in books.
