The perfect birthday present
It’s Daniel’s birthday next week. His friend Jason is looking for a birthday present for Daniel. Jason hasn’t got enough pocket money and it’s always difficult to find a nice present for Daniel because he has got everything. His parents are richer than Jason’s parents; his mum is a doctor and his father is a computer expert. Daniel hasn’t got any brothers or sisters. When his parents are at work, his grandfather looks after him. His grandfather always gives him a lot of pocket money so that Daniel can buy the best computer games, the most expensive sweets and other things.
“What can I buy for him? He has got everything,” Jason asks his mother.
“Why don’t you invite him to our next camping trip?” says his mum. “That could be a lot of fun for you boys. Your cousins Martin and Kevin are coming, too. You can go swimming and fishing at the lake near the campground.”
“I don’t think that Daniel likes camping. He always stays in hotels with his parents. And it’s nicer to sleep in a hotel than in a tent,” Jason tells his mum.
“Let’s make a nice birthday card for Daniel with a tent on it,” his mother says. They draw a birthday card and on the inside they write: “Voucher for a camping weekend. Bring your own sleeping bag.”
When Daniel reads the cards he smiles: “That’s the most fantastic present. I really like camping. I think camping is more exciting than staying in a hotel. My parents don’t like camping and my grandfather is too old for camping. My father is always busy. He also works at the weekend and he says: Time is money!
